If your transmission mounts are showing the effects of a lifetime of spirited driving - such as vibration or a knock under hard accelleration, or braking, then they need replacement.

Without the right specialist tooling, this is a nightmare of a job, which is why many people do all sorts of workarounds; filling the cavities with rubber sealant or other filler material, or, using one of the many aftermarket polyurethane inserts. These options introduce their own issues - with the injected goo - you re just postponing the inevitable, while the polyurethane inserts can create NVH issues, not what you want on your 911.

But, using the right tooling, you can replace the mount in-situ, saving time, money, and allowing you to install a replacement OE (or stiffer rubber sports-type) transmission mount.

This kit, from CTA Manufacturing, places this task squarely within the capabilities of the DIY er. It contains tooling for both manual and tiptronic 996 and 997.1 vehicles.

How does the rental work? Simple - you pay for the tool rental just like any product on the website. The price includes a $100 bond, and two-way courier to your workshop / address. You let us know how long you need the tools for (default is two weeks) and we dispatch them to you. When you re done, you use the pre-paid courier ticket to send the tools back, and we refund your bond (assuming everything is returned in good order).
