Luis Anibal

This coffee is grown by Calderon at his farm Villa Betuila.

This varietal is native to Ethiopia. Many years ago seeds arrived in Huila. Luis was one of the lucky farmers who was able to cultivate it, and understand the behaviour of the plant. The cherry is elongated and has a belly button shape at the base of the fruit.

Calderon is known for his high quality, exotic coffees. Luis is a 2nd generation farmer and has been working in this field for 40 years. After struggling financially due to selling his coffee to low paying buyers, he reached out to his local Speciality Coffee Association. They were willing to pay 15% more, which allowed him to venture into growing exotic coffee. In 2012 he planed 5,000 Geisha trees. After waiting three years for the trees to bear fruit, Luis converted.

In 2015, Luis embarked on the mission to convert his entire farm to exotic varietals. He now grows all kinds of varietals such as Red Gesha, Tabi, Striped Bourbon, Papayo and many more!

The coffee has been hand picked carefully, ensuring only the ripest cherries are picked. They are then hand sorted to remove any defects. The coffee is then sundried on raised beds in temperature controlled conditions until the ideal moisture content is achieved.
