The Kea is one of our most beloved national icons. The worlds only mountain parrot, Keas represent New Zealander’s collective love for the outdoors and the call of adventure. It is the unique intelligence of the Kea which creates the biggest challenges for their protection. Kea are considered nationally threatened and vulnerable, their common interactions with humans, manmade machinery and infrastructure often put them in harm’s way. The kea’s protection relies on future innovation to ensure the flourishing of New Zealand’s precious native taonga.
