A beautiful Tui positioned on a traditional bone fish hook. Giclee Print. A3

The extinct Huia perched on a traditional kete (basket). Giclee Print. A3

Exquisite Tui on Maori baskets. Giclee Print. Tui colours are emphasised in the basket's feathered edges. Hydrangea flowers at the base finish this print off. Perfect for a modern home. Framed in black brings out the Tui's dark colours and a white frame brings out the lightness of the flowers.

This surreal scene shows us rock pillars standing resilient in the sea. A closer look reveals thay are not rock pillars but remnants of an ancient stone wall broken down by the tides and time. Who built these walls? Where are we? - the place has two moons!Oil on canvas. Edges painted.16" x 20" (405...

This surreal scene is inspired by a real rock formation in a barren landscape in the Far North. Surrounding it are mysterious portions of an ancient rock wall on legs.Oil on canvas. Edges painted.24" x 30" (610 x 760 mm)

This surreal scene is inspired by a real rock formation near Taupo. Was it man made in ancient history? There is a bigger game than Lego that floats around the Kaimanawa Wall! What is this Kaimanawa Wall ?- watch here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36oq K1nTW8Oil on canvas. Edges painted.24" x 18...

Perhaps the most surreal of John's series - he doesn't give us many clues when he says "There are three moons floating in a surreal landscape with surreal coloured figures."Oil on canvas. Edges painted.24" x 30" (610 x 760 mm)

Giant spheres of the familiar colours of Paua shells floating in contrast with an almost barren landscape - what do we make of that? Precisely the question that John wants viewers of his paintings to ask themselves. What does this mean to me? Oil on canvas. Edges painted.24" x 36" (610 x 910 mm)

John presents us with a different view of natural rock formations in the Far North. But are they natural? Perhaps they are ruins of what were once megaliths in some ancient and forgotten time that are now sheltering one lifeless tree. Oil on canvas. Edges painted.24" x 30" (610 x 760 mm)

Rocks floating in the air? Is that debris in the water or characters of an ancient language? That seabed seems to be paved rather than natural. Wondering what is going on - precisely what John wants you to do with this painting. What does this mean to me? Oil on canvas. Edges painted.24" x 36" (610...

This is a rock partially exposed in the sand. Sounds simple but it has some characters on it. Who abandoned this here?Oil on canvas. Edges painted.16" x 20" (405 x 510 mm)

Walking the Blue and Green lakes trail in Rotorua was the inspiration for this work. The feeling of light filtering through the forest canopy towards the viewer, creating the feeling of stepping from the dark into the light. Using hand made feather brushes, teasing the eyes to believe in the undergr...

Painted using palette knives and homemade brushes made from gull feathers. Even as our way of living is changing daily due to the effects of Covid-19, solace can be found in nature. The continual cycle of tides and seasons is a reminder of the constant state of renewal, that this too will pass. The...

These bold botanicals sure are a winner in many settings. Christie says "Sometimes they emerge of their own volition, this was one of those. A feeling of coming straight from the heart. My work is not about representing things but describing the feelings evoked, my way of sharing them with you.."90...

This springtime Puka with fruit was inspired by trees near the artist's Papamoa Beach home. The random scallops in the leaves create interesting shadows and highlights. This is the first work in Christie's new 2022 series called 'A Positive Passion'. Christie enjoys using bold translucent colours in...
